Last quarter at my college, I learned in my creative writing class that if a work of literature is posted on any web site, whether social (Facebook, MySpace), or otherwise (dA), it is considered published. This blew my mind. I never expected that and I didn't believe it until I did my own research. It seems so stupid to me that if you put something online, such as on dA's website, it shouldn't be considered publish, especially if you're looking for critique.          Since learning this, I've been cautious about putting up works that I want to get published in the future. I go almost every week at my college's writing lab and meet with a published author who has been helping me with my novel I was working on. I've been reading what I've written out loud and I've noticed mistake after mistake, but I've also felt that what I've written isn't very good. I've found myself more frustrated by it than pleased. My mentor kept asking me questions that I had never thought of before. This last week, after finishing my first chapter, I've decided to throw everything out.     This is a drastic move and most authors probably wouldn't advise it, but my story is going no where and I don't have any solid plot. I think everyone has wondered what makes a book, like the Hunger Games or the Twilight Series, suddenly so popular? What makes it so good that you can't put it down no matter how hard you try? I have wondered this myself and compared the two books. Both are unique twist on old stories or historical events, both are from the view of a female, and both are in first person.     I'm beginning to wonder if, besides the story itself, the style of writing attracts people. First person, as of late, seems to be all the craze. As a writer, I would love to know from anyone, when you pick up a book, do you prefer/like first or third person and why? U
